MY FIRST JOB AS YOUR EXECUTIVE COACH IS TO LISTEN

You’re the leader in leadership

With so much focus on the role of leadership to drive company growth and improve the bottom line, I want you to know that there is also a place in leadership for the leader. It’s where we start. I need to hear your perspective and what you believe are the issues your company is currently facing and what you think the solutions are.I want to know if you feel your company’s goals align with your goals, personal and professional, and find more ways for those goals to support each other.

And you need to be able to develop your own personal leadership style that capitalizes on the best traits of your personality so that you feel you’re being true to who you are as you lead your company or your practice area. I mean, what would it feel like to go to sleep at night knowing you could just be yourself at work the next day?

C

As a leader, you directly impact company culture

If you felt free to be fully yourself—fully human, as a leader—if your direct reports could see you boldly sharing ideas, being vulnerable when you didn’t understand something, being honest when you disagreed, or courageously offering creative solutions to problems that traditional methods couldn’t solve, it would set a precedent. It would let them know, “This is our new company culture.”

They could then feel safe to be themselves and bring their full selves to problem-solving, to relationship building with colleagues and customers and between departments, to collaboration, and ultimately to fulfillment of the company’s mandate and the achievement of its goals.

And what would be the result?

Reduced employee turnover, increased engagement, and stronger performance, all fostering your company’s growth and greater contributions to the bottom line.

BEYOND LISTENING, HOW DOES EXECUTIVE COACHING WORK?

You and I will move through nine core phases (average 6-month engagement):

  1. Defining Your Desired Results
  2. Assigning AND UNASSIGNING Responsibilities
  3. Soliciting Feedback on Your Performance (Stay with me now…)
  4. Planning for Your and Your Company’s Success
  5. Enrolling Stakeholders
  6. Implementing Your Plan
  7. Evaluating Your Progress
  8. Celebrating Your Wins
  9. Repeating the Process

THE PROCESS

1. Defining Your Desired Results

3. Soliciting Feedback on Your Performance

1. Defining Your Desired Results

After I get to know you and your company, we’ll define and understand the business results you want to achieve. With clearly defined results, you’ll become more decisive. You’ll know whether to take action on an idea by answering,

2. Assigning Responsibilities

3. Soliciting Feedback on Your Performance

1. Defining Your Desired Results

When you clearly define responsibilities and you can Assign AND UNASSIGNING Responsibilities  It will also allow you to focus on innovation and the big ideas that will grow your company.

3. Soliciting Feedback on Your Performance

3. Soliciting Feedback on Your Performance

3. Soliciting Feedback on Your Performance

Soliciting Feedback on Your Performance

And now your colleagues, your direct reports, and those you report to will all provide honest and anonymous feedback on you and assess your performance as a leader. And let me just say...

This part is grueling

4. Planning for Your Success

4. Planning for Your Success

3. Soliciting Feedback on Your Performance

With the new lens through which you’re able to clearly see yourself and your impact on your team and your company, we’ll write two detailed action plans—one to develop new leadership behaviors and the other to achieve the business results you defined in Phase One. There will be no confusion about the results we want to achieve and how we intend to get there with strategic thinking and a concrete, measurable, outcome-based action plan.

5. Enrolling Stakeholders

4. Planning for Your Success

5. Enrolling Stakeholders

Coming off the fresh insight you’ve gained into the impact you have on others, you’ll develop and improve (and even heal) key relationships with stakeholders. I’ll help you communicate more clearly with peers, subordinates, bosses, and clients. You’ll learn how to more successfully navigate company politics, generate agreement on developmental priorities, and build company-wide support for your plans.

6. Implementing Your Plan

4. Planning for Your Success

5. Enrolling Stakeholders

With one-on-one coaching, we’ll put plans into action and lean into opportunities that allow you to practice the new behaviors that positively influence your company culture. We’ll track your progress in developmental areas and adjust your plans to close any gaps between expectations and results. All of this will ensure you and your company stay on track to achieve the results you defined in the Results phase. (EVERYTHING comes back to the business results you want to achieve.)

7. Detail your services

8. Celebrating Your Wins

8. Celebrating Your Wins

It’s time to measure outcomes, strengthen those key relationships with follow-up interviews, and further develop action plans. You’ve worked hard to get here, so this is no time to let up or hope you can coast to the finish line.

8. Celebrating Your Wins

8. Celebrating Your Wins

8. Celebrating Your Wins

You did it. Your team did it. Your company did it. You need to take time to formally acknowledge what you accomplished together, give gratitude, reward yourself and your company, and party. I tend to prefer Prosecco to Champagne if anyone asks.

9. Repeating the Process

8. Celebrating Your Wins

9. Repeating the Process

With all you’ve learned, you’ll be ready to approach your next stage of growth. Hey… great job.

Who am I most effective in helping?

Book a time on my calendar, and we can go over the four types of leaders that companies see their biggest ROIs on when they hire me (average 6-month engagement):

  • Corporate C-Suite Executives and Leadership Teams
  • Business Owners on a Private or Public Corporate Trajectory
  • Entrepreneurs and Founders Who Have Raised Money and are Scaling Rapidly
  • Professional Athletes Transitioning from Sport to Business (See Transition Coaching)

Each type of leader or team is built on the same foundation of the Nine Core Phases, and each has unique demands that I’m able to meet by drawing on over 20 years’ experience in 26 different countries as an executive and leadership coach.

ACCOUNTABILITY MASTERMIND

Accountability is a prerequisite for change.

Did you know you are more the 95% more likely to achieve a goal if you have it written down and you have an accountability coach or partner that holds you accountable to that goal.

YES That’s a fact! So why aren’t you in one of our accountability groups?  You want to be better don’t you?

The ACCOUNTABILITY MASTERMIND is a life-changing process that helps you and your team to be fully accountable to company goals, personal and professional goals, and to each other. This six-month weekly program is intense, but it will help you break habits that have been impeding your company’s growth; build unity that will get everyone rowing in the same direction; and make your team a high-performing unit that can depend on each other to realize and reach the summit of your organization’s potential—where company goals and personal and professional goals align.

Transition Coaching

Professional Athletes

CHANGE IS JUST PART OF LIFE. JUST PART OF BEING HUMAN.

As a professional athlete many of changes in your life will be external and out of your control. You get hurt or cut and suddenly, you’re done. You’ve worked your whole life to make it to the top then it’s over. How do you prepare for that change? How do you leverage your network and influence that you have right now to set yourself up for success when your playing days are over? What business is the right fit. How do I surround myself with people I can trust? What do I need to learn so I can be successful in business? A million questions, right?

THIS IS WHERE I COME IN

So more than just helping you adapt to your changing circumstances, I help you adopt a new way of seeing yourself and others through the experience of these changing circumstances.

It’s not actually the change itself we resist, it’s the transition we must go through to fully accept and process the change that’s the most difficult. As William Bridges, preeminent authority on change and transition says, “It isn't the changes that do you in, it's the transitions. Change is situational, transition is the psychological process people go through to come to terms with the new situation. Change is external, transition is internal."

You will feel a loss when it happens. You will feel like you’ve lost your identity. You won’t have a team around you anymore. You won’t get the same attention. You will be an Former Pro Athlete.

Change rarely allows us the luxury of ‘transition-time’. It doesn’t matter how many balls you’re juggling or how fast they’re spinning, my coaching presses the pause button, allows you to step back & gain clarity — raised awareness, greater understanding and learning. Learning and heightened awareness puts you in a position of control, choice & clear direction.

Together, I'll help you embrace your "human-ness" so that you can discover and define what will bring you the greatest personal satisfaction and professional effectiveness moving forward.
